Finding Wisdom in the Word

“If any of you lacks wisdom,

he should ask God,

who gives generously to all without finding fault,

and it will be given to him.”

~James 1:5

So far this week, we have tackled the need to read Scripture, how to understand it, and what to do when you want to memorize it.  I pray you find these tools helpful.  But now I want to move on to believing Scripture.  I want to talk about the importance of believing the Word of God is for you.  There’s no room for doubt or condemnation when it comes to God’s Word.  We need to believe that every word in the Bible is there for a purpose.  We need to believe that God’s Word is for us!

There have been a few times that I’ve read Scripture and wondered “Is that really possible?”  “Can God really do that for me?”  Have you ever had that happen?  Well, it’s okay.  The important thing is to take these thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).  Never allow yourself to stay in a place of doubt.  Move forward even when you don’t feel it.  It’s important to read God’s Word even when you don’t understand it because it will never come back void (Isaiah 55:11).  God’s Word is active and it will change how you feel, it will make a difference even when you don’t understand it.

So let’s give this a try.  James 1:5 is a great place to start.

1. If any of you lacks wisdom…

Well, I’m pretty sure that includes all of us.  I know I have a long ways to go in this whole wisdom thing!  I continue to learn more about God and His Word daily.  So yes, I’m there.  I have a lack of wisdom, do you?  If so, then congratulations…  You are already starting to believe Scripture.

“Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom.  Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”

~Proverbs 4:7

2.  …he should ask God…

Do you believe that you have the right to approach God?  Do you believe that He wants to hear from you directly?  Have you asked Him something lately?

“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

~Hebrews 4:16

“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”
~Hebrews 11:6

3.  …who gives generously…

Do you believe that God is generous?  Have you experienced His generosity?

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

~Matthew 7:11

4.  …to all without finding fault…

This is where it gets tricky.  I think sometimes we have a snag in our prayer lives because we tend to find fault with ourselves.  We don’t tend to think we are good enough.  But I’m here to tell you, that you are good enough.  Jesus came to die for you and your sins.  He came to set you free from the bondage of sin.  You can enjoy life everlasting because of the sacrifice that God made on your behalf.  If you want to know more about this, I urge you to read FREE Gift

5.  …and it will be given to him.

God wants to give you wisdom.  He wants you to have a better understanding of His Word, so that you can live it out daily. Okay, now go ahead and read James 1:5 again!  See it from a new perspective!

“If any of you lacks wisdom,
